Yesterday was my first McDonald Forest 15K----something I'd anticipated since last year's first 5K there. It was a perfect day although HOT til the first water station, where a cupful went onto the head, and we began to climb to cooler temps. After the arduous ascent and descent to the actual Powder House, something went awry in my knee. I love the run to the Bonzai Trail and have finally learned to run Bonzai with almost abandon. Sadly, my knee did not cooperate and I scratched my first race at the beginning of the end, which is also a huge favorite part of McDonald Forest for me. The young man who manned the Y in the road at the bottom of Bonzai raced off to retrieve the director, Marc LeRoux, who retrieved me in his vehicle. I was amazed (and chagrinned) that he didn't wait until after the race was over to do so, but forfeited his view at the finish line to come get me. As usual, Ecletic Edge did a fabulous job of staging this event, which is part of the reason I so looked forward to this race. If Ecletic Edge is involved, I want to be also! In the meantime, my knee looks injured but is working fine. I am disappointed to have stopped, but appreciate all the people who work to support races and offer aid when a runner does have a problem. (I should rave about The Best in the West Triathlon crew and Ecletic Edge! They were AMAZING also when things went awry!) Thanks for a much anticipated event and am looking very much forward to next year!
